    Pseudo-Automorphisms of positive entropy on the blowups of products of projective spaces

    We use a concise method to construct pseudo-automorphisms f_n of the first dynamical degree d_1(f_n) > 1 on the blowups of the projective n-space for all n > 1 and more generally on the blowups of products of projective spaces. These f_n, for n = 3 have positive entropy, and for n > 3 seem to be the first examples of pseudo-automorphisms with d_1(f_n) > 1 (and of non-product type) on rational varieties of higher dimensions.Comment: Mathematische Annalen (to appear

    Embeddings of SL(2,Z) into the Cremona group

    Geometric and dynamic properties of embeddings of SL(2,Z) into the Cremona group are studied. Infinitely many non-conjugate embeddings which preserve the type (i.e. which send elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic elements onto elements of the same type) are provided. The existence of infinitely many non-conjugate elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic embeddings is also shown. In particular, a group G of automorphisms of a smooth surface S obtained by blowing-up 10 points of the complex projective plane is given. The group G is isomorphic to SL(2,Z), preserves an elliptic curve and all its elements of infinite order are hyperbolic.Comment: to appear in Transformation Group

    Invariant Peano curves of expanding Thurston maps

    We consider Thurston maps, i.e., branched covering maps f ⁣:S2S2f\colon S^2\to S^2 that are postcritically finite. In addition, we assume that ff is expanding in a suitable sense. It is shown that each sufficiently high iterate F=fnF=f^n of ff is semi-conjugate to zd ⁣:S1S1z^d\colon S^1\to S^1, where dd is equal to the degree of FF. More precisely, for such an FF we construct a Peano curve γ ⁣:S1S2\gamma\colon S^1\to S^2 (onto), such that Fγ(z)=γ(zd)F\circ \gamma(z) = \gamma(z^d) (for all zS1z\in S^1).Comment: 63 pages, 12 figure

    Effective-Range Expansion of the Neutron-Deuteron Scattering Studied by a Quark-Model Nonlocal Gaussian Potential

    The S-wave effective range parameters of the neutron-deuteron (nd) scattering are derived in the Faddeev formalism, using a nonlocal Gaussian potential based on the quark-model baryon-baryon interaction fss2. The spin-doublet low-energy eigenphase shift is sufficiently attractive to reproduce predictions by the AV18 plus Urbana three-nucleon force, yielding the observed value of the doublet scattering length and the correct differential cross sections below the deuteron breakup threshold. This conclusion is consistent with the previous result for the triton binding energy, which is nearly reproduced by fss2 without reinforcing it with the three-nucleon force.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures and 6 tables, submitted to Prog.     This list of problems arose as a collaborative effort among the participants of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft on Mathematical Quasicrystals, which was held at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach in October 2015. The purpose of our meeting was to bring together researchers from a variety of disciplines, with a common goal of understanding different viewpoints and approaches surrounding the theory of mathematical quasicrystals. The problems below reflect this goal and this diversity and we hope that they will motivate further cross-disciplinary research and lead to new advances in our overall vision of this rapidly developing field

    Tuberculosis (TB) is still the world's second most frequent cause of death due to infectious diseases after HIV infection, and this has aroused greater interest in identifying and managing exposed subjects, whether they are simply infected or have developed one of the clinical variants of the disease. Unfortunately, not even the latest laboratory techniques are always successful in identifying affected children because they are more likely to have negative cultures and tuberculin skin test results, equivocal chest X-ray findings, and atypical clinical manifestations than adults. Furthermore, they are at greater risk of progressing from infection to active disease, particularly if they are very young. Consequently, pediatricians have to use different diagnostic strategies that specifically address the needs of children. This document describes the recommendations of a group of scientific societies concerning the signs and symptoms suggesting pediatric TB, and the diagnostic approach towards children with suspected disease
